Murdoch McKenzie, our Scottish immigrant to Canada, was originally from Inverness, Scotland. At the time of the blockade of Quebec by the Americans, in 1775-76, he was one of the defenders, then 26 years old. This makes him born around 1744. His parents' names, Murdoch and Catherine McKenzie, were listed on the record when Murdoch converted from the Protestant church to the Catholic church in Quebec, Canada on July 9, 1780. There is still no evidence of Catherine's maiden name–the true key to finding his probable family in Scotland.
Possible Connections with Scotland
I searched for Murdochs christened in our time period (1730-1750) as well as Murdochs married to Katherines in our time period and location. Once I found these with a possible son Murdoch, I looked for the couples’ other children. These are from the old church records of the Church of Scotland, Parish of Inverness. The film may be rented from the LDS and the records searched on their site at http://www.familysearch.org.
