Divorce is Increasing
Total Number for 1917 Was 1,705 Against 650 in 1918.
London, Oct. 4.–Divorce is increasing throughout the United Kingdom at an alarming rate, according to a white paper. The total for 1898 was 650. For 1917 it was 1,705, with the greatest increase recorded in the years between 1914-17.
Another development which the government views with alarm is the number of actions brought by husbands. Where once the petitioner was usually a woman, the past few years have so changed the situation that in 1917 the number of husbands seeking separations was 1,067 as compared with 638 wives.
